About
Discount Pool Supply is an online store selling pool products with a very large catalog and many unique SKUs. The goal was to improve content management, product discovery, and the shopping experience for complex products like above ground and in-ground pools. We also needed to support two languages: English and French.
Challenge
BigCommerce scale + complex shopping flows
The store had thousands of products, but BigCommerce has limited options for building rich, structured content on product pages. At the same time, pools are not simple “add to cart” items and often need a guided buying flow. The project also required two full language versions (EN + FR), which is not easy to handle cleanly in a single BigCommerce setup.
Main challenges:
- Managing rich product descriptions across a very large number of SKUs
- Building a configurator for above ground pools and in-ground pools
- Improving product discovery for a large catalog (search + filtering)
- Delivering a real English and French storefront experience
Solution
CMS + configurator + search + bilingual architecture
We kept BigCommerce as the commerce engine, and added the missing layers needed for content, search, and language support. Storyblok became the content tool for rich product descriptions and marketing pages. We built a pool configurator to guide shoppers through selecting the right pool type and options. We also implemented Algolia for faster and more accurate search across the full catalog. Finally, we delivered a bilingual setup so English and French content can be managed properly and served as two consistent storefront experiences.
Key steps:
- Added Storyblok CMS for flexible content blocks on product pages and landing pages
- Built a pool configurator for above ground and in-ground pools with step-by-step logic
- Implemented Algolia search to improve relevance, speed, and filtering at scale
- Created a bilingual EN/FR structure with language-aware content and routing
Results
Discount Pool Supply gained a much stronger storefront experience without changing their core BigCommerce setup. The team can now create rich product content easily, customers can configure pools through a guided flow, and search works much better for a large SKU catalog. On top of that, the site supports a real English and French experience, which was not possible with a standard BigCommerce single-instance approach.
