Why we launched GetSections.com
Motivation and reason behind GetSections, what is it, how it works and who would benefit in which way from it.
eCommerce vertical teaches us that it's in state of constant change and it's not about ideal platform or ideal theme, eCommerce is a constant and rapid change with a hard defined Calendar of specific events.
New ideas should be implemented and all the changes caused by shifting tech landscape should be addressed before specific deadline hits! Those deadlines are not moveable.
GetSections is about a way of “assembling” and iterations after the project is implemented and launched.
What we observing is that eComm niche specifically is very visual/functional/app reference heavy with multiple examples of:
- hey did you saw this store, I like their Collection filters, which plugin they used?
- oh this Product Details Page is awesome, how they made this slider?
- we are going to refresh our look and feel which themes you guys think are top now?
^ and there is more things like this on Twitter and FB Groups of merchants
On top of it when merchant works with Agency or a freelancer building requirements it’s often they use a deck full of screenshots cherry picking the sections from Wayfair or competitor stores, showing specific UX elements
Or very often a one line specs for RFP’s by simply:
hey we like store XYZ.com what would be the cost and timeline to build smth similar?
The benefit for eCommerce merchants is:
- they can see what sections and features more popular OR direct competitor stores is using on their store and plan their own roadmap of implemented changes
- They can perform a rapid Section Try-On where someone can go through the Library and say: “I like how this section look like” then pick it provide their store URL and get this section embedded to a cloned template so they can see it, tweak it further without risking functionality of their store
The benefit for Agencies is:
- they would be able to pull a sitemap, and a scaffolding of a Store Like X to build their proposal and see that they don’t miss anything and they don’t waste a lot of time in the pre-sales stage where everyone wants to know upfront a price range but also want it really itemized
The benefit for UX Designers:
- they can see patterns, trends, niche-specific similarities and cherry-pick references for their moodboard or for a discusion on why specific section should look like specific way or contain some must-have elements
Our future goal is to enable Quick Try-On to allow launch and test the section someone liked right away and Cross-platform!
